Meet Gaia Marini
MAY 1 , 2025
Gaia Marini is both the artist and the brand—a self taught weaver and textile designer. Based in the historic town of Pula, Croatia, she finds inspiration in the stunning natural landscapes of the istrian peninsula.
She first discovered the art of sewing, knitting, and crocheting under the guidance of her mother and grandmother. Seeking to expand this inherited knowledge, she pursued formal studies in textile engineering at the University of Ljubljana, where she refined her understanding of yarns, fabrics, and the intricate world of textiles.
Having a name that is inspired from nature, she wanted to incorporate the natural world at the core of the brand's identity.

The name Gaia Marini weaves a rich and poetic tapestry, blending the enduring strength of the earth with the fluid grace of the sea.
It forms a harmonious tribute to the natural world, celebrating the interconnectedness of land and water, stability and change, endurance and transformation.
During her studies in textile engineering, she developed a deep appreciation for natural fabrics, driven largely by a growing awareness of the environmental and ethical challenges associated with the production of synthetic yarns and textiles. This understanding sparked a commitment to seek more sustainable and responsible ways of working with materials.
Upon completing her studies in Ljubljana, her resolve to address these industry issues only strengthened. Inspired by a vision of mindful craftsmanship, she dedicated herself to creating handwoven natural fabrics that are both durable and sustainable, championing a more conscious and ethical approach to textile production.
To further expand her expertise in woven fabrics, she attended a few weaving courses at the Fondazione Arte della Seta Lisio in Florence. There, she had the opportunity to learn from teachers and master weavers who operate on 19th-century Jacquard looms.

Through her brand, she aspires to foster a deeper appreciation for natural fibres and to inspire a shift toward mindful consumption. Buying quality over quantity where beauty, sustainability and responsibility are harmoniously intertwined.
